We all know that MINI is on a one-manufacturer mission to create as many imperceptibly-small niches in the car market as possible.
There's the original MINI Hatch, which is fair enough; then there's the MINI Clubman, the Countryman, the Convertible, the Roadster, the Coupe and the upcoming Paceman. MINI really is milking those cute retro looks for all they're worth.
Now, however, it seems MINI has another answer to a question literally nobody was asking, namely: "Why isn't there a boat in the MINI range?"
The boat that you see above is designed to resemble a MINI convertible, and was used by MINI as a promotional tool at the Head Of The Charles Regatta in Cambridge, Massachusetts, last weekend.
Unfortunately -- and unlike the completely bonkers Gibbs Quadski we told you about last week -- the MINI boat is not an amphibious vehicle; in fact, technically, it's not even a car.
Essentially, the MINI Wetman (as we've dubbed it) is just a fibreglass shell grafted onto a boat hull, with a 6hp outboard motor for propulsion.
Because of this, it's unlikely that the MINI boat will ever see production. However, given the firm's reputation for producing endless variations on a single theme, we wouldn't be at all surprised if MINI takes this opportunity to cram another model into its ever-expanding line-up.
