Images of what could be the new Chevrolet Corvette Cabriolet have been leaked online.

The thing is, nobody seems quite sure if the pictures are genuine.

The images appeared on the website of model car manufacturer Maisto and, while the company can hardly be considered an authoritative source of breaking motoring news stories, it is possible that General Motors gave the firm the pictures of the new car so they could get started on designing the models.

On the other hand, Chevrolet's Director of Communications, Michael Albano, told Jalopnik.com that the photos are definitely not genuine, categorically denying that GM has anything to do with them. But is he lying to throw us off the scent?

The thing is, we know that there will be a convertible Corvette at some point. We also know that the car in the pictures looks quite like the standard 'Vette, which was unveiled earlier this week. Occam's Razor therefore leads us to believe that the photos are genuine, and that Mr Albano is making the best of a bad situation.

Then again, the whole thing could be a carefully orchestrated PR stunt designed to get us talking about the new car, in which case it seems to have been quite successful. Damn you corporate America, you win again!

Anyway, take a look at the photos for yourself and let us know what you think in the comment box below.
