Ford commercial vehicle sales are at their highest for more than a quarter-of-a-century after passing the 100,000 mark for 2015.

It is the first time Ford have achieved six figure commercial vehicle sales since 1989, helped by a record November which saw them outsell their closest rivals by more than two-to-one. The company is now on course to beat its record annual sales figure for commercial vehicles, set in 1989 when they sold 104,721 units.

A market leader for half-a-century, Ford has benefitted from the first full sales year for both the expanded Transit range and the Transit Courier. In the fifty years since the first Transit rolled off the Langley production line over eight million have been produced, and more than 2.5 million have been sold in the UK. Ford Transit and Ford Ranger sales have enjoyed a record 2015, while Fiesta Van and Transit Connect sales have also grown significantly. Ford Transit models sit third in the list of total UK vehicle sales for the year to date.

Ford of Britain chairman and MD Andy Barratt said: “The Ford Transit has been a staple commodity for Britain for half a century, and our commercial vehicle line up has never been stronger. Four commercial vehicles now carry the iconic Transit nameplate, and, together with Ranger and Fiesta Van, are on track to deliver our most successful year ever for CV sales. With the introduction of our Euro Stage 6 engines next year, designed, developed and built here in the UK, the Ford commercial vehicle range will be among the cleanest vehicles on the road today.”
