The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse has officially been named the world's fastest roadster after clocking 254.04mph at the VW Group's Ehra-Lessien proving grounds in Germany.
The record, which was verified by the TÜV, the German organisation for Technical Inspection and Certification, returns the Veyron to the record books just days after the Veyron Super Sport was stripped of its 'World's Fastest Car' title after it was discovered that its electronic speed limiter had been removed for its world record attempt.
Behind the wheel during the record-breaking run was Chinese racing driver Anthony Liu in Bugatti's new 'World Record Car' (WRC) version of the Veyron. The roof was down during the high-speed run.
The World Record Car is an otherwise standard Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse with a distinctive black and orange paint job. The car's 8.0-litre W16 engine remains unchanged, developing 1184bhp and 1106lb-ft of torque.
Just eight examples of the WRC will be built, each with a list price of 1.99 million Euros plus tax (around £2.1 million).
The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse WRC will go on display at the Shanghai Motor Show later this month.
