BMW has released the first official pictures of its new 4 Series cabriolet ahead of the car's debut at next month's LA Motor Show.
The 4 Series Convertible, which was revealed in a series of teaser images leaked online last week, is due to go on sale in the UK next March, replacing the old 3 Series Convertible in the BMW line-up.
The new 4 Series Convertible is bigger than the old 3 Series and features a completely new three-piece folding hard-top roof design which includes improved sound-proofing and aerodynamic efficiency. In addition to this, there's even a feature which moves the folded roof up or down in the bootspace to maximise carrying capacity when the roof is down. This means there's 220-litres of space on offer with the roof down and 370-litres with the roof up.
Two petrol engines and one diesel will be available in the 4 Series Convertible from launch. The entry-level 420d gets a 181bhp 2.0-litre diesel unit, while those looking for a petrol car will have a choice between a 242bhp 2.0-litre unit in the 428i and a 302bhp 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six in the 435i.
All engines are available with a choice between a six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic and start-stop is included as standard.
Five equipment levels will be on offer ranging from the basic SE trim through Sport, Luxury, Modern and M-Sport levels. All models come as standard with features dual-zone air-con, front and rear parking sensors and cruise control, along with what BMW calls Air Breathers and Air Curtains, which are designed to reduce turbulence and aerodynamic drag around the front wheels, maximising efficiency.
Prices for the new BMW 4 Series Convertible will start from £35,650 -- £4,075 more than the coupe -- rising to £44,970 for the top-of-the-range 435i.
