The Bloodhound Super-Sonic Car, which could become the land speed record holder next year, has been unveiled in London by its design team.
The finishing touches are yet to be applied to the vehicle – it will likely be completed before the end of the year – however the near-complete structure is expected to bring in more than 8,000 viewers across Friday and Saturday in Canary Wharf.
The initial aim for Bloodhound will be to get up to 800mph, in the process smashing the current land speed of record of 763mph (set by Thrust SSC in 1997, another British model). The Team plan to achieve this in a little over a year’s time on 15 October 2016.
The project has taken eight years up until now, with the overall target of pushing the land speed record to over 1000mph – a feat that could be realised in 2017.
Mark Chapman, the team’s chief engineer, said "It's amazing to see it like this, away from the workshop and almost ready to go racing.
"I can't wait to see people's reaction, to see the look on their faces."
Test runs will take place early next year on a special track which has been prepared for Bloodhound in South Africa.
