Aston Martin is continuing to develop a luxury 4x4 based on the Lagonda concept shown at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show.

This news comes just a week after we showed you the first official photos of the EXP 9 F, Bentley's first foray into the off-road market.

The Lagonda concept was panned upon its unveiling and Aston Martin is keen to point out that the new 4x4 will bear no resemblance to the concept.

The off-roader will be based on the current Mercedes-Benz GL-Class and a deal has been struck for Mercedes to supply platforms and engines to Aston Martin for the new model.

It is unclear whether the 4x4 will bear the Aston Martin badge or whether the car will be marketed as a Lagonda.

So, is Aston Martin right to cash in on the 4x4 market or is the new off-roader an affront to one of the most evocative names in the business? Leave your comments below.
