Aston Martin and Mercedes-Benz have formally confirmed their new technical partnership, which will give Aston Martin access to AMG's technical resources.

A collaboration between the two manufacturers was first announced back in July, with Aston Martin gaining access to AMG's bespoke V8 engines and Mercedes parent company Daimler AG gaining a share in the British company in return.

Mercedes will receive a five per cent non-voting share in Aston Martin along with an observer status on the Aston Martin Holdings board.

Aston Martin will continue to manufacturer all of its cars at its Gaydon headquarters in Warwickshire.

A spokesperson for Aston Martin said: "Our company is this year celebrating its centenary, and the partnership agreed today underpins prospects for Aston Martin's bright, vibrant and dynamic second century in the sports car business.

"This strategic collaboration for Aston Martin will, in our next generation of luxury sports cars, offer our customers increased performance and efficiency whilst retaining the unique character and style of an Aston Martin."

Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Management Board of Mercedes-AMG, called the partnership "a real win-win situation for both sides."
