Apple's Tim Cook has mentioned the car industry, which has lead to a significant buzz on the internet.

Whenever Apple expresses an interest in new markets people get excited, and this isn't the first piece of evidence that would suggest Apple are interested in the car industry.

At the Wall Street Journal's WSJDLive conference in California, Tim Cook avoided commenting on whether or not Apple is looking to actually build its own car, yet he did have this to say:

"When I look at the automobile, what I see is that software becomes an increasingly important part of the car of the future. You see that autonomous driving becomes much more important."

Take from that what you will, many are already getting worked up into a frenzy, journalists and comment section addicts alike are going wild with speculation. Most commenters are being pretty cynical about it all, drawing conclusions about Apple's interest in all things automotive based on their dislike for Apple watches, or that time when their Words With Friends app crashed.

Other clues that Apple are looking to expand into the car industry include the development of CarPlay; their own onboard infotainment system, and the hiring of Megan McClain who previously worked for Volkswagen as an engineer with expertise in automated driving.
