The exclusive Abarth 124GT has gone on UK sale priced from £33,625.

Just 50 examples of the Abarth 124GT will be available in this country, equipped with carbon fibre roof, 17-inch OZ Ultra-Light alloy wheels, and Bose sound system. The model will come in a choice of three colours - Portogallo 1974 Grey, San Marino 1972 Black, and Turini 1975 White.

The Abarth 124GT was unveiled earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show. Weighing just 16kg, its lightweight carbon fibre hardtop roof contributes to a 50:50 weight distribution, and with removal and refitting taking just a few easy steps the transformation from grand tourer to open top roadster is made in minutes. Engineered for optimum handling and performance, the Abarth 124’s engine sits behind the front axle, concentrating the weight to within the wheelbase and giving and excellent power-to-weight ratio. The high double wishbone front suspension and rear five-arm multi-link with a calibrated setup is specifically designed to increase cornering and braking stability. A Record Monza Exhaust gives the Abarth 124GT at distinctive sound, and a mechanical self-locking differential gives it optimal traction.

Powered by a 1.4 MultiAir Turbo 170bhp engine, the 124GT goes from 0-62mph in 6.8 seconds, and to a top speed of 144mph. In manual form it emits 148g/km of CO2. In six-speed automatic form it is a fraction slower to 62mph, taking 6.9 seconds, and emits 153g/km of CO2. Fuel economy is 44.1mpg combined for the manual and 42.8mpg for the automatic.
