The owner of the iconic ‘F1’ number plate has turned down a whopping £6m offer for it, claiming it is “not enough”.

Afzal Khan, of A Khan Design, bought the plate back in 2008 from Essex County Council for the not-so-small price of £440,625. Incredibly however, the cost seems rather modest in comparison to the offer which has recently been tabled.

Most people would be lucky if their private number plate was worth a four figure sum, let alone have the wealth to reject £6m for it. That is precisely what Mr Khan has done though, boldly claiming that it is worth considerably more.

To be fair, given the quite staggering collection of cars and number plates owned by the businessman, it is not like he needs to sell.

The ‘F1’ plate is currently worn proudly by his Bugatti Veyron – quite a step up from the Volvo S80 it used to be on (driven by the Essex County Council chairman). The registration is now 109 years old.

It stands a strong chance that Mr Kahn is holding out for what would make it the world’s most expensive number plate; bragging rights in this department currently belong to Saeed Abdel Ghaffar Khouri, an Arab business man, who purchased the ‘1’ plate for £7m in 2008.
