Toyota has revealed details of its new revised Verso range, which will be available from next year with a new BMW-sourced diesel engine and a new trim level.
The new 1.6 D-4D diesel engine, which Toyota is using for the first time, is originally from BMW; however, Toyota has given the unit a new dual-mass flywheel, revised engine mounts and a completely redesigned electrical interface. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox with start-stop as standard.
The engine replaces the existing 2.0-litre D-4D engine in the UK line-up, offering a 20kg weight saving and better fuel economy. The engine produces 110bhp and 199lb-ft of torque, giving a 0-62mph time of 12.7 seconds and a top speed of 115mph, while fuel economy stands at 62.8mpg and CO2 emissions at 119g/km.
In addition to this, a new trim level -- the Trend -- joins the Verson line-up for the first time. Designed to fit into the range between the Icon and Excel models, the Verso Trend comes with a range of style and equipment modifications such as black C-pillars, five-spoke alloy wheels, front fog lamps and rear privacy glass.
Inside, the models get Toyota Touch 2 with Go, which adds satellite navigation, connected services, Google Street View and TomTom real-time traffic data. A rear-view camera and front parking sensors are also included.
Prices for the new Verso range will be released in the new year.
