The new, updated Audi A8 is available to order now, with prices starting from £58,800.
Changes to the A8 range include revisions to its aluminium space frame body, a host of cosmetic tweaks and an upgraded range of engines.
There are seven engine options on offer from launch, with the majority of the engine offering improved performance and fuel efficiency over the outgoing model. The entry-level model, the 3.0-litre diesel, has been given a 7bhp power boost, taking its total up to 254bhp, while the 3.0-litre supercharged petrol unit has been boosted from 286bhp to 306bhp.
Moving up the range, the 4.0-litre V8 now produces 429bhp, compared to its predecessor's 414bhp, as well as Cylinder on Demand technology. The 4.2-litre TDI has been given a boost too, with 380bhp on offer -- 35bhp more than the outgoing model.
The 6.3-litre W12 engine in the top-of-the-range A8 L now gets 493bhp and thanks to Cylinder on Demand technology returns 24.1mpg and 270g/km of OC2, which Audi claims is the best in the class. There are also economy improvements for the hot S8 model which now produces 513bhp while returning 29.4mpg and 225g/km of CO2. 0-62mph takes 4.1 seconds.
On the outside, the most obvious changes are a new grille, a new bumper and new headlamp units. The headlamps contain 25 LEDs which Audi claims allows the A8's automatically-dimming headlights to react extremely precisely to other vehicles, illuminating the road entirely while masking off just the segment of road with the other car in it. The lighting system also uses data from the sat-nav to predict the road ahead, adjusting the distribution of light accordingly.
The A8 is offered with a choice of three specification levels: SE, SE Executive and Sport Executive. SE models come as standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, electromechanical power steering and all-LED headlights with high-beam assist. SE Executive models get extra kit, while top-of-the-range Sport Executive models get MatrixBeam LED headlights and internet connectivity.
Prices kick off from £58,800 for the entry-level 3.0 TDI in SE trim, rising to £79,900 for the S8. Prices for the 6.3 W12 have yet to be confirmed.
The first deliveries of the new A8 are expected in January 2014.
