The lightweight design means that the fuel economy is surprisingly efficient and as you would expect the handling is extremely responsive. However there are almost no features to improve comfort and security which means this is a car for weekends and special occasions only.
PROS: The New Westfield UK200 1.6 Litre has been fitted with the Vauxhall Corsa VXR engine, which adds reliability to fantastic performance and incredible handling. It is also one of the most fuel efficient of any sports cars on the market.
CONS: The Westfield UK200 1.6 Litre is certainly a no frills sports car that has almost no safety features. It also may be a little optimistic to own an open top car in the British climate.
The fuel economy of the Westfield UK200 1.6 Litre has been added to by the extreme lightweight body, and returns 40mpg. The top speed of the Westfield UK200 1.6 Litre is almost identical to its rival Caterham Superlight R300's 140mph. The Westfield UK200 1.6 Litre is only 2mph faster.
The handling is also extremely responsive due to the lack of excess weight. The Turbo is able to corner at very high speeds and remain relatively stable. However it is still below the high standard set by the famous Lotus Elise. But it should be noted that Lotus has far more experience and finance at hand than Westfield.
The suspension on the Westfield performs surprisingly well and manages bumps and uneven surfaces with ease. However the noise of the engine and lack of cover mean it would only be suitable for short journey or leisure driving, and is certainly not suited to motorway travel.
The styling on the Westfield UK200 1.6 Litre is retro and minimal adding to its fun feel. As well as this the interior is almost completely bare except for dials, and other essentials such as switches for the lights, heater and windscreen wipers.
The Westfield UK200 1.6 Litre has a complete lack of features which is disappointing when you compare it to the Lotus Elise that has a few features that you might see as essential. Offering air conditioning, a CD player, central locking and a leather steering wheel.
The two seats on the UK200 are also no frills, and provide little comfort and support compared to the seats on the Elise which are far from the most comfortable available but provide enough support to avoid giving the driver back problems.
In terms of practicality the Westfield UK200 1.6 Litre seems to have given up. There is a boot that is so small that it can store only the smallest bags, or a couple of coats. In contrast the Elise CR has a surprising amount of space and whilst the boot is not the biggest it is large enough to hold a couple of bags.
Since the UK200 is an open car security is going to be a real concern. Unless you have garage space it does not seem like a practical option.
The start price for the £26,500 might seem cheap but the Westfield is at best a second car. You would need something a lot more practical for day to day driving. On top of this you would need garage space to store the Westfield UK200 1.6 Litre.
Since the kind of person who could afford to store and run the Westfield UK200 1.6 Litre would not be short of money, the short comings of the car don’t seem to be as much of a stumbling block as you might expect.
