For a car with personality, dramatics, speed and vigour, the Westfield Sport 2000 is certainly a car to consider. With a powerful engine combined with its unique shape and unbelievable value, this car is an adrenaline junkie’s dream vehicle.

PROS:  The Westfield Sport 2000 is lightweight racer which is able to accelerate as quickly as a Ferrari, but can deliver the performance at a snippet of the price. With a one year warranty, the car enjoys good resale values.

CONS:  Practicality is not a strong point when it comes to the Sport 2000, the car seemingly more suited to a race track than a city road.

Behind the Wheel

Fast, loud and fun pretty much sums up this sports car. Inspired by the Lotus 7, the Sports 2000 created by Midlands firm Westfield adopts the Duretic unit for its sports model, the key difference being the new throttle body. The 2 litre Westfield Sports 2000 has a 16 valve motor, and a whole load of power, producing 200 bhp at 6750 rpm, and a torque figure of 155 at 4500, which as anyone could imagine, makes it a hell of a lot of fun to drive.

In brief, this means that the Sports 2000 acceleration covers 0-60mph in an impressive 4.2 seconds, with a top speed of 130mph, which perhaps makes up for the disappointing five-speed gear box.

With its immense power and speedy performance however, it’s not the best car for driving round cities in. The sharp clutch makes for a not so smooth getaway, and because there are 2.5 turns from lock to lock, the process of manoeuvring the car at low speeds can be taxing. It also results in a hop-like motion from the back axle over roads whereas a lower powered vehicle would drive somewhat more smoothly.

In the end though it is the resounding vocals of the roaring engine that shows off the car: the Sports 2000 is not a car to drive in tranquillity through a little village or in heavy traffic; better to be saved for zooming round race tracks.

Looks & Equipment

Like the lack of subtlety in speed and noise levels, the Westfield Sports 2000 is not subtle in looks. Its pared-down body is instantly recognisable along with its stunning new lines and curves which are both smart and aggressive at the same time.

The usual shut-line of Westfield’s older ranges has been removed by merging the nose-cone and bonnet, which also allowed for the engine vents to be moved forward, making cooling of the engine for efficient.

In terms of interior features, the Sports 2000 is very much the same as the older Westfield models. With little additional features, the 2 door car is designed more for speed and performance over comfort and practicality.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

When it comes to the practicality and security the Sports 2000, there is little to say. The car has no problem with breaking, being able to go from high speed to stationary without much delay. Nevertheless, safety is not its strong factor.

Again, with no special details or extra features to speak of, it is purely the powerful engine that reels you in.

It does however, come with 1 year warranty or unlimited mileage, so it’s not too bad if you’re just using the Sports 2000 as a track race car at the weekends.

Value for Money

At £22,685 new, the Westfield Sports 2000 in essence, is an absolute bargain buy. At least 10K cheaper than other sports cars of its specification, it is ridiculously good value for money when compared to other popular sports cars and roadsters.

If you are looking for a car that stands out from the crowd and is a little bit out of the ordinary, then the Westfield is a good car to opt for.

Unfortunately, with lack of reliability a huge factor, the depreciation of this particular vehicle isn’t great in the long run. However, for weekends of thrills and pure adrenaline rushes, it could be argued that it is worth every penny.
