CarSite Verdict:  3.5/5
This car is ideal for its spacious capacity, and its security and safety measures are appealing. However, the car's CO2 emissions are massively impactful; therefore the car's maintenance and running costs are not cheap.

PROS:  This large family estate vehicle is convenient for families as it seats five occupants and has five-door access. The car was also awarded the maximum five-star rating by NCAP, which suggests this car ticks all of the right boxes in terms of reliability and practicality.

CONS:  This model produces masses of CO2 emissions, which has caused the car to be placed in expensive road tax band L. The car's fuel economy is not great either so this is not a cheap family car to buy or maintain. The car also charges for additional features that are often included in the purchase of a car.

Behind the Wheel

The Volvo V60 delivers a smooth and refined ride, with a quiet engine and minimal wind and road noise throughout. It handles well and glides through corners with good road grip and sharp steering, although could be a little more responsive. The model is an excellent motorway cruiser and absorbs bumps and road imperfections with consumate ease on the whole.

For a large family car this model can reach a hasty top speed of 155mph, which is not common with vehicles such as this. It also boasts rapid acceleration taking just 6.2 seconds to travel from 0mph to 62mph. The car's power output is powerful at 300bhp, and the torque is also strong at 324 lb-ft.

Looks & Equipment

This car comes with alloy wheels to enhance the external appearance, but for £640 the model can be painted in metallic to give it greater road presence. The interior is refined with part leather seating as standard to improve comfort whilst driving or travelling in this car.

Climate control and MP3 connectivity are both standard features. Driver and passenger convenience is apparent with electric door mirrors and electric front windows.

For drivers that make long journeys or regularly use the motorway this car has cruise control, which is ideal. However, rear parking sensors are not included in the purchase price of the vehicle and are available for £385.

Bluetooth is not already fitted to this model and costs £410 to be added to the car. Satellite navigation is available as a cost extra for £525.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

This V60 has five doors and seats five occupants making it an ideal choice for a family car, as there is simple access in to the vehicle. The car has got relatively generous boot space, when the rear seats are upright there is 430 litres of free space, and when the rear seats are folded there is 1241 litres .

The safety has been well established as there is a driver airbag, passenger airbag as well as airbags in the front side area of the vehicle to maximise protection for the driver and passengers in the event of an accident.

The car's warranty is standard; Volvo offer three years and up to 60,000 miles of cover.

In terms of security, the car is fitted with an alarm to give the car maximum security when it is unattended, and central locking.

Value for Money

The Volvo V60 T6 AWD R-DESIGN Geartronic 5dr can be bought for £36,585. This is especially expensive for a car that does not include satellite navigation, rear parking sensors, Bluetooth or metallic paint. Plus the car is not cheap to run or maintain as its road tax is costly and its fuel efficiency is poor.

The model performs on average at 28.5mpg. It also produces extraordinary levels of CO2 emissions at 237g/km. This is very damaging to the environment.

However, the car is spacious and comfortable for a family car and it was awarded the maximum rating by NCAP which suggests this is a good car, just not the cheapest one. For value for money buyers should look further down the range.
