This large family car performs fairly well on the road, delivering a smooth and refined ride which is also a lot of fun. Its engine boasts fairly impressive performance and its fuel efficiency is on a par with many of its rivals. The equipment list however could be a little better, and some tech-savvy drivers may be forced to opt for a model with a better spec.

PROS:  This large estate is a suitable family vehicle as it comfortably seats five occupants, has five doors and has generous boot space. Cruise control and MP3 connectivity are standard features of this car.

CONS:  The equipment list could be a little better.

Behind the Wheel

The Volvo V60 delivers a smooth and refined ride, with a quiet engine and minimal wind and road noise throughout. It handles well and glides through corners with good road grip and sharp steering, although could be a little more responsive. The model is an excellent motorway cruiser and absorbs bumps and road imperfections with consumate ease on the whole.

127mph is the top speed met by this vehicle, which is typical for a car of this type. It takes 9.7 seconds for the model to travel from 0mph to 62mph, which again is standard for an estate. The car's power output is 148bhp and its torque is 177 lb-ft.

Looks & Equipment

The V60 is a fairly attractive estate and its exterior is enhanced with the inclusion of standard alloy wheels. As a cost option, the model can be painted in metallic for £640.

Standard equipment includes climate control, cruise control, CD player, MP3 connectivity, electric door mirrors and electric front windows.

Rear parking sensors cost £385, while Bluetooth connectivity and satellite navigation cost £410 and £525 respectively. Leather seating can be added for £1,280.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

This V60 has five doors and seats five occupants making it an ideal choice for a family car, as there is simple access in to the vehicle. The car has got relatively generous boot space, when the rear seats are upright there is 430 litres of free space, and when the rear seats are folded there is 1241 litres .

The safety has been well established as there is a driver airbag, passenger airbag as well as airbags in the front side area of the vehicle to maximise protection for the driver and passengers in the event of an accident. The model received a maximum 5 star Euro NCAP rating.

The car's warranty is standard; Volvo offer three years and up to 60,000 miles of cover.

In terms of security, the car is fitted with an alarm to give the car maximum security when it is unattended, and central locking.

Value for Money

The Volvo V60 T3 ES Start/Stop 5dr is a large family vehicle that is spacious and comfortable, but some drivers may require a little more equipment as standard than is provided.

The car produces 155g/km of CO2 emissions, which is not bad for its class and is relatively efficient as it runs on average at 42.2mpg. All things considered, the model is priced competitively compared to rivals and represents decent value for money.
