PROS: The C30 T5 looks great and offers great performance figures.
CONS: It'll be expensive to run and the limited rear legroom and small boot means that it's not going to work as a family car.
The C30 T5 is the performance model in the C30 range. Its excellent 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine develops an impressive 230bhp and 236lb-ft of torque which makes for a very fast 0-62mph time of 6.7 seconds and a top speed of 149mph.
The T5 has lower suspension and sharper steering than the rest of the C30 range and it's a gas through the bends. The steering is direct and accurate and there is very little body roll. The downside to this is that the ride is quite firm. At high speeds, wind and road noise make their presence known but this is only a small issue.
The C30 looks fantastic both inside and out. The interior has a quality feel that you just don't get from other manufacturers in this price bracket.
Standard equipment includes alloy wheels, climate control, electric windows, cruise control, part leather seats and a CD player with MP3 connectivity. Sat-Nav is an optional extra at £525, Bluetooth costs £275 and rear parking sensors will set you back £385.
Volvos are very reliable cars - you only have to look at how many old Volvos there are on the road to see this - and the C30 should be no exception. The car ranked highly in the 2011 J D Power Survey and comes as standard with a 3 year/60,000 mile warranty.
The cars boot space is quite limited and when hen the rear seats are upright there is just 251 litres of space. When the rear seats are folded there is 894 litres of free storage space.
Volvo's reputation for safety is peerless and, as you would expect, the C30 was awarded the full five stars by Euro NCAP.
The Volvo C30 T5 R-DESIGN 3dr is priced at £22,125 which is very good considering the car's quality and impressive performance credentials.
Running costs will not be cheap and you'll only achieve a combined 32.5mpg thanks to the C30's thirsty five-pot engine. CO2 emissions of 203g/km puts the C30 under VED band K which is also high, although fairly reasonable considering the Volvo's impressive performance.

The C30 is useless as a family car but if you don't have kids it's a great choice. Good looking, extraordinarily economical and well-made, there isn't much to dislike about the C30.
