The performance is mediocre, it is not especially fuel efficient and the interior feels very cheap. However, refinement is good and this city car does what it is designed to do, which is serve as a practical, cheap, small city car.
PROS: The Fox is cheap, practical and comfortable.
CONS: The interior feels very cheap, it is badly equipped and the fuel economy isn't really good enough for a car of this type.
With a top speed of 92 mph and a 0-62 mph time of 15.9 seconds, the Fox is hardly the most exciting of cars. The car’s 1198 cc engine produces 59 bhp with torque figures of 80 lb-ft at 3000 rpm.
The controls are quite simple to use and the gear change is smooth. At higher speeds, however, it is very noisy.
Once the driver gains momentum, the Fox is capable of holding a happy 75-80 mph on motorway stretches. The suspension thumps its way over bumps, but soft springs and dampers deliver a satisfactory pliant ride quality at lower speeds.
The 1.2 Urban Fox has a high body which creates plenty of room, but a slightly ungainly stance and awkward proportions from side on.
The interior feels very cheap and there is very little equipment included as standard. Electric front windows and a CD player come as standard, with optional extras including metallic paint for £445, electric door mirrors at £110, air conditioning for £1060 and alloy wheels for £635.
The four-seater has bags of space in the cabin, thanks to the high roof. The boot has 260 litres available and 1016 litres when the seats are down.
The car is fitted with driver and passenger airbags for protection, although front side airbags come at an additional cost of £255. 3 point seatbelts plus pretensioners can be adjusted according to a person’s height and there are another two 3 point rear seatbelts for extra passengers. There are two rear head restraints to avoid whiplash injuries to passengers and a driver seat height adjustment to assure a comfortable and safe journey for the driver.
The 1.2 Urban Fox 3dr costs £8,530, which is cheap, but you'd expect the Fox to be cheap given its cheap feeling interior and lack of standard kit.
The 1.2 Urban Fox delivers 48.7 mpg and has CO2 emissions of 136g/km. This is simply not good enough by today's standards - most Golfs are more economical than the tiny Fox. There are much better cars out there for the same sort of money.
