Background

The Grand Vitara is a Medium 4X4 that has been in production since 1988. Since its original production the Vitara has seen three different generations in order to keep the car competitive in an increasingly popular market.

The first generation Vitara was sold between 1989 and 1998 with and paved the way for the Grand Vitara which was introduced in 1999 as the sport variant.

The second generation model ran from 1999 to 2005 and was available with one of either 3 enigines; a 1.3L, 1.6L or a 1.8L. There was also a 2.0L V6 option. The second generation Grand Vitara received two facelifts, one in 2002 and one in 2004 before it was replace in 2005 by the third generation model.

The third generation model uses a longitudinally mounted engine which sets it apart from the Theta vehicles with which it shares some components. In 2008 the Grand Vitara was given a facelift making it appear much more modern than previous models, the facelift model also comes with the option of 2 more engines, a V6 or a 2.4 litre straight 4 engine.
