For those looking for a high performance family car, the Skoda Superb Elegance 2.0 TDI CR 4x4 is a great option. The advanced trim level offers increased comfort to drivers and passengers, but the increase in price over the more powerful Superb SE 2.0 TDI CR DSG means that that the price is difficult to justify.

PROS:  A high level of interior comfort combines with good performance to make this a great car to drive.

CONS:  Performance credentials fail to live up to those of the Superb SE Plus 2.0 TDI CR DSG 5dr.

Behind the Wheel

This car has the same power output as the Superb SE Plus 2.0 TDI CR DSG delivering an impressive 168 bhp at 4200 rpm through its four cylinder engine. The Elegance model takes 9.0 seconds to reach 0-62 mph and has a top speed of 136 mph, but performance credentials are marginally better in the SE Plus model.

In terms of noise disruption, the engine once again performs well. As the latest generation common-rail units, the diesel engines are refined and smooth and the car also does a good job of keeping noise from the wind and road out of the cabin, making the drive comfortable and quiet.

Looks & Equipment

The Skoda Superb Elegance 2.0 TDI CR 4x4 is an attractive car and this trim levels offers a good range of kit for drivers.

Standard equipment includes power steering, central locking, stability control, alloy wheels, climate control, electric door mirrors, electric front windows, cruise control, rear parking sensors, leather seats and an advanced stereo system with CD and MP3 connectivity. On top of this, Bluetooth connectivity and a built-in sat nav are also standard features.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

With plenty of room within the cabin for passengers and luggage, the Skoda Superb Elegance 2.0 TDI CR 4x4 is a great car for families. The large interior means that comfort levels are high for both passengers and drivers with lots of adjustment in the seats and steering column.

The car has great safety attributes and achieved the top five star rating for overall safety in the NCAP crash tests, due to an advanced safety kit which is fitted as standard and offers driver, passenger and front side airbags along with an alarm and immobiliser to protect against theft.

The boot capacity offers a generous 595 litre capacity even when the seats are in place. Folding these down increases the capacity to 1,700 litres, giving owners plenty of room when it comes to luggage.

The layout of instruments is logical and that makes the car straight forward to operate. Skoda is known for its high reliability record and to add further reassurances the car also comes with a three year warranty for 60,000 miles.

Value for Money

Priced at £26,215 this model costs £1,470 more than the SE Plus model whilst only offering minor improvements. Performance and efficiency are marginally better in the SE Plus, so it could be seen as the better investment for families.

The Elegance has a combined economy of 45.6 mpg, which is fairly average and the SE Plus is slightly more efficient.

The Elegance model incurs moderate road tax and insurance costs under brackets G and 22.
