The Seat Leon Cupra R 2.0 TSI 5dr is the sports version of the Leon hatchback range and offers a great performance, with all the practicality of the hatchback. However, it is a big step up in price from the rest of the range, so if the performance is not a priority, you would be better off sticking with a smaller, more economical version like the SE Copa 1.6 TDI.

PROS:  The reliable and robust Seat Leon Cupra R 2.0 TSI 5dr is the sports version of the Leon hatchback and offers great performance credentials with a good range of equipment.

CONS:  The suspension is very firm, resulting in an uncomfortable ride and it is much more expensive than the others in the Leon hatchback series, so if the high level of performance is not a priority, it is better to go for a smaller engine with lower running costs, like the Leon SE Copa 1.6 TDI CR 5dr.

Behind the Wheel

The Seat Leon Cupra R 2.0 TSI 5dr is an advanced version of the Leon hatchback, offering better performance credentials than the rest of the range. The gear change is smooth, the steering accurate and it grips the road firmly. The 2.0-litre petrol engine allows for a little more push than that of the 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre petrol engines. The only fault is that the firmer suspension means quite an uncomfortable ride.

Producing 258 lb-ft torque power at 2500 rpm, and 261 bhp at 6000 prm, the Seat Leon Seat Leon Cupra R 2.0 TSI 5dr has a top speed of 155 mph and can reach 0-62 mph in 6.2 seconds, completely outclassing the rest of the Leon range.

Looks & Equipment

The Seat Leon Cupra R 2.0 TSI 5dr has a cabin which is spacious and solidly built with a dahsboard that is coated with a padded material and the other parts of the interior are however created in a hard grainy plastic.

The Leon Cupra R is the most advanced trim option and comes with a vast array of features.

The equipment that comes as standard with the Seat Leon Cupra R 2.0 TSI 5dr includes climate control, power steering, alloy wheels, cruise control, parking sensors, sat nav, Bluetooth, MP3 connectivity, electric door mirrors, leather seats and electric front mirrors. Metallic paint is available at an extra cost.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

Thanks to the VW influence in the build of the Seat, the hatchback is both robust and reliable. The Euro NCAP crash tests gave the car four stars and it comes with driver, passenger and front side airbags as standard, with an alarm, stability control, central locking and an immobiliser also as standard.

The 341 litre boot is an awkward shape and the Seat Leon certainly lacks a few much-needed cubbyholes. The moulded plastic centre console doesn’t come fitted with a storage box and glove box is relatively small.

Value for Money

The Seat Leon Cupra R 2.0 TSI 5dr is an upgraded version of the Leon hatchbacks and in return for a price of £25,995, you get an advanced trim and great performance credentials.

The hatchback has a combined average of 34.9 mpg and CO2 emissions of 190 g/km. The running costs won't be cheap and the price is hiked up from the other Leon models. If the performance is not an important factor in your choice of car, your money would be better spent on the more efficient SE Copa 1.6 TDI.
