Don’t be fooled by the sporty exterior, the Seat Ibiza Sportrider 1.4 16v 5dr is certainly not as exciting to drive as it is to look at.

However, it is cheap and comes with loads of equipment as standard. The sports suspension also tightens up the steering.

PROS:  A stable, sprightly hatch with a very low price tag.

CONS:  Stranded between hot-hatch-ness and ordinary Ibiza-ness, the Seat Ibiza Sportrider 1.4 16v 5dr in fact proves to be a little underwhelming.

Behind the Wheel

The Seat Ibiza Sportrider 1.4 16v 5dr is a small family car with a sporty edge and front-wheel-drive.

Producing 97 lb-ft torque power at 3800 rpm, and 84 bhp at 5000 rpm, the Seat Ibiza Sportrider 1.4 16v 5dr really isn’t the best in terms of speed. It has a top speed of 110 mph and travels from 0-62 mph in 11.8 seconds. It does steer beautifully at low speed and accelerate smoothly. The steering is quick and accurate, thanks to the sport suspension, and due to the low set driving position, both long and short journeys can be made in comfort.

The gearboxes feel firm and smooth, but the engine is a little on the noisy side, this becomes more apparent once you hit certain speeds.

Looks & Equipment

The Seat Ibiza Sportrider 1.4 16v 5dr looks great for a cheap hatchback, but some of the materials in the cabin don't look so sleek, but rather hardwearing.

All models come with buttons on the steering column, which control the MP3 and CD player. On top of this all Seat Ibiza Sportrider 1.4 16v 5dr model has electric windows, alloy wheels, electric door mirrors, Bluetooth, air con, rear-parking sensors and cruise control as standard. Leather seats and metallic paint come as optional extras.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The Sportrider 1.4 16v 5dr comes fitted as standard with a driver, passenger and front side airbags as well central locking, an alarm and immobiliser.

The interior of the Sportrider 1.4 16v 5dr offers an ample amount of space in the front but minimal legroom in the rear. The driver is able to adjust the seat to his or her preferences and there is ample headroom available. The boot offers plenty of space and the 60/40 split rear seats fold back easily, which then creates even more space. The boot goes from 292 litres to 554 litres with the seats down.

The seat Ibiza Sportrider 1.4 16v 5dr is a reliable vehicle and offers a 3-year warranty on 60,000 miles.

Value for Money

The Ibiza Sportrider costs £13,125 and the car tends to hold its value pretty well.

On top of the cheap purchase price, the engine is environmentally and economically friendly and offers low CO2 emissions of 139 g/km with a combined average of 47.9 mpg. It is a great choice for those who want to keep running costs low with a practical car, but those who want an exciting driving experience might have to look elsewhere.

The Sportrider trim costs extra and is worth it only if the extra equipment is really necessary, although the suspension does aid handling.
