If you wish to combine excellent practicality with low running costs, the Seat Altea S Emocion 1.6 TDI CR Ecomotive 5dr may be the car for you. The Altea S Emocion offers an advanced S trim, with a few more features than the basic S level.

The MPV has loads of space, good handling and all comes at a reasonable price.

PROS:  Low road tax, crisp handling and excellent practicality. The Seat Altea S Emocion 1.6 TDI CR Ecomotive 5dr averages an impressive 62.8 mpg and emits just 119 g/km of CO2.

CONS:  The engine refinement isn't great and road noise becomes very apparent at speed. The cabin is a little dull in style.

Behind the Wheel

Producing 184 lb-ft torque power at 1500-2500 rpm and 103 bhp at 4400 rpm, the Seat Altea S Emocion 1.6 TDI CR Ecomotive 5dr has a top speed of 114 mph and a 0-62 mph speed of 12.2 seconds.

The refinement could be better and the engine is quite noisy. Wind noise is noticeable at high speeds. The downside of the design means that the upsweep of the rearmost side windows tends to create a blind spot when reversing.

The seat can be adjusted by height and the steering wheel can also be moved in order to offer the best comfort possible.

Looks & Equipment

Smooth lines make for a sporty finish and the Seat Altea is probably one of the better-looking MPV’s on the market. The Altea’s cabin is built with solidity in mind and has been created with fine hardwearing materials.

The Altea S Emocion comes with steering wheel-mounted stereo controls, air-conditioning, front fog lights, alloy wheels, front electric windows, side airbags, traction control and a CD player complete with AUX-in socket as standard. Optional extras include Bluetooth and metallic paint.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

All Alteas come with anti-lock brakes as standard. Stability control works to keep the car in check, even when dealing with slippery corners. The twin, front, side and curtain airbags act as extra safety features and the Euro NCAP ratings have awarded the Seat Altea S Emocion 1.6 TDI CR Ecomotive 5dr with five stars. It also comes with ISOFIX child seat mounts and the fitted alarm and deadlocks.

The Seat Altea has adjustable seats to allow for more room in the cabin and for the boot. The seats fold flat and slide in order to cater to the users’ needs. The split-level boot is both large and deep in size and comes in at a capacity of 1320 litres with the seats folded away.

The Altea’s VW-sourced mechanicals have been thoroughly tested and therefore shouldn’t provide the users with any problems and the Seat Altea S Emocion 1.6 TDI CR Ecomotive 5dr comes with a three-year 60,000 mile warranty.

Value for Money

The Seat Altea S Emocion 1.6 TDI CR Ecomotive 5dr offers a competitive price at £18,190 and running costs are very low too, with a combined average of 62.8 mpg and CO2 emissions of 114 g/km.

It is a great value for money car that offers plenty of practicality, with a good performance and low running costs at a very reasonable price. The S Emocion is an upgrade on the basic S trim and comes with all the equipment you need, plus a lot of the features the S noticeably misses.
