Renault Modus Overview
Engines are compact and practical, with Renault's diesel units being offered, but the petrol units are worth considering as well, especially the 1.2-litre unit. The little Modus was not designed for speed, and it is not a fast car. The car does manage to zip along the city streets quite well though.
The Renault Modus was aimed at people who wanted the practicality of the Renault Scenic yet didn’t want the larger size. The result was a cross between the Renault Scenic and the Renault Clio.
Background
The Renault Modus was introduced the market in 2004 and was built with many parallels to the Renault Clio. With the Modus practicality was key, the seats are adjustable adding extra versatility to the cabin, the front seats also contain hidden compartments for extra luggage space.
Three years after the Modus was released, a Phase II model was announced which featured updated interior trim, colour coded bumpers and side door mouldings amongst other things. It also received another facelift in 2008 which saw changes made to the front and rear ends of the car to keep it up to date with the newer Grand Modus.
The Grand Modus has a number of good safety features which helped it achieve 5 stars in the Euro NCAP test of passenger safety. Despite being a good reliable vehicle; Renault decided to cease production of the Modus and the Grand Modus alike in 2012.
Summary
The Renault Modus design maximizes cabin space and interior room is better than it looks from the outside. The car feels well-made for the most part with a few exceptions. The car is attractive despite the inexpensive materials that have been used.
