PROS: The Cayman looks fantastic, is superb to drive and benefits from rock-solid residuals.
CONS: Not much standard equipment.
The Cayman's 2.9-litre flat-six develops 262bhp and 221lb-ft of torque. This translates into a 0-62mph time of 5.8 seconds and a top speed of 165mph. Make no mistakes, the Cayman is a very fast car.
It handles well too. The chassis is superb and the steering is sharp, direct and responsive. If anything the Cayman handles better than the Boxster thanks to the extra structural rigidity afforded by the hardtop bodyshell.
The Cayman is surprisingly refined too. It's not super-quiet but there is very little noise from the road or wind. The engine is always audible but this is all part of the car's charm.
The Cayman looks great. It isn't quite as desirable as a 911 but it's not far off. The interior quality is also superb and everything feels as if it's built to last.
Alloy wheels, air-con, electric windows, electric mirrors and CD player are included as standard. Optional extras include Sat-Nav (£1986), Bluetooth (£445), MP3 connectivity (£77), rear parking sensors (£348), cruise control (£299) and climate control (£437).
The Cayman should be very safe and its superb chassis provides plenty of grip and makes it very hard to crash. If you do run out of grip (or talent) then six airbags are supplied as standard which should keep you safe.
The Cayman should be very reliable and is supplied with a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty as standard.
There's a decent amount of storage space in the Cayman too with 150-litres in the front and 260-litres in the rear which means that the Cayman is more practical than you'd think.
At £39,162, the Cayman is terrific value for money considering the sheer amount of car that you're getting for your money. It should also hold on to its value very well indeed.
It's also relatively economical for a sports car. You should achieve a combined 30.1mpg and CO2 emissions of 221g/km mean that the Cayman comes under VED band K - a whole two brackets below the highest group, M.
