PROS: The Boxster looks great, is superb to drive and handles brilliantly. It should also be very reliable.
CONS: It's very expensive and Porsche could have been a bit more generous with the standard kit.
The Boxster's 2.9-litre flat-six engine develops 251bhp and 214lb-ft of torque. This translates into a 0-62mph time of 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 163mph.
The handling is perfect, there is no other word. The Boxster grips and grips and grips and the steering is sharp as a knife. Porsche have lightened the current Boxster and this really shows when you chuck it into the corners.
The Boxster is also surprisingly comfortable and there is very little noise in the cabin, even at speed.
The Boxster looks sensational and, roof up or roof down, you're sure to turn heads. The interior feels superb too and everything in the cabin feels like it was made to last. Very impressive.
Porsche have been a bit mean with the amount of equipment on offer. Alloys, air-con, electric windows and CD player are just about the only things included as standard. Optional extras include Sat-Nav (£1986), Bluetooth (£445), MP3 connectivity (£77), rear parking sensors (£348), cruise control (£299) and metallic paint (£615).
You'll be surprised at how practical the Boxster is. For starters you get two boots, one in the front and one in the back, which offer a combined storage capacity of 280-litres. There's also plenty of space in the cabin.
The Boxster should also be very safe thanks to driver, passenger and side airbags and stability control.
Porsche make very reliable cars and the Boxster has so far proven itself to be mechanically unburstable.
At £36,572, the Boxster 2.9 is the cheapest Boxster in the range and the cheapest car that Porsche currently makes. It offers superb value for money when you consider the sheer amount of engineering expertise which has gone into making it and the amount of driving pleasure it offers.
It's not cheap to run but it's not extortionate either. With a light foot you should crack 30mpg and CO2 emissions of 221g/km push the Boxster up into VED band K which is not the highest tax bracket. Group 43 insurance will be pricey but the Boxster will hold its value well.
