The Peugeot 5008 Access 1.6 VTi 5-door MPV blends real practical seven-seater capability with a level of refinement and performance which makes it very appealing. Well priced, well equipped and sure to be a hit for those who need space, performance and economy. You can even specify some state of the art technology such as a head-up-display (HUD) so you don’t have to take your eyes off the road, or an automatic system that warns you when you are too near the car in front of you.

PROS:  Good drive and handling, excellent safety, upmarket technology features, flexible seating layout.

CONS:  This petrol version is not the most economical, rearmost seats are only good for children or teenagers.

Behind the Wheel

Inside the cabin you’ll find there’s good adjustment available to enable you to find a good driving position. The dash has an uncluttered look to it although you may have to reach to get to some of the controls mounted on the centre console. It all looks classy though, with lots of attractive soft-touch plastics and it also feels durable. Visibility is generally good, although the front pillars may obstruct the view at junctions for some. An electronic handbrake is installed and it’s easy to use.

This model comes with the 120bhp, 1.6-litre, VTi petrol engine installed. Capable of a top speed of 116mph and going from 0-62mph in 12.3 seconds, it produces torque of 118lb-ft giving it ample pulling power. Average fuel economy is 40.9mpg for this version.

The 5008’s ride is generally well composed with only sharp bumps giving it anything to worry about. For an MPV its handling is sure and composed with lots of grip and good steering. The 5008 is one of the most refined MPVs on the market today and at cruising speed it’s especially quiet with only some wind noise over the roof.

Looks & Equipment

With its classic, elegant understated looks it has an appealing presence on the road. This Access version comes equipped with central-locking, stability control, alloy wheels, electric door mirrors, electric windows, immobiliser and a CD. Optional extras include cruise control £160, Bluetooth £735 and metallic paint £440.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

With space enough for seven it’s certainly practical. There’s slide and recline adjustment on the middle row of seats but the two seats in the back are best suited for children and not full sized adults. However, even with all the seats in place there’s a useful 679 litres of boot space and after folding the seats away that grows to an impressive 2,506-litres.

Euro NCAP gave the 5008 the maximum overall rating of five-stars in their crash tests. Front and side airbags protect driver and front passenger, as well as curtain airbags which run the length of the cabin. Stability control also comes fitted as standard.

Anti-theft measures include deadlocks, visibly marked components and an integrated CD system.

Peugeot hasn't been known for its reliability, however the 5008 MPV has close relations with the Citroen Grand C4 Picasso and that has been rated superbly in customer satisfaction surveys recently. The 5008 comes with Peugeot’s three year, 60,000 mile warranty and 20,000 mile regular service intervals.

Value for Money

The Peugeot 5008 Access 1.6 VTi 5-door MPV is affordable to run and with an £18,145 price tag it’s well placed in this class. This Access 120bhp, 1.6-litre VTi model has CO2 emissions of 159g/km. Group 12 insurance and VED band G for Road Tax are reasonable too.

The MPV market is ever growing and the Peugeot has a lot to offer in terms of space, refinement and driving pleasure. It should be a popular used buy in the future and will probably hold its value well – the diesel versions even more so.
