The 4007 GT 2.2 HDi 156 FAP DCS Auto 5dr is a capable performer, it's just not quite good enough to justify its high price.

PROS:  Good engine, decent handling, impressive interior space

CONS:  Poor interior quality, tacky interior plastics, harsh ride

Behind the Wheel

The 4007 is fitted with a 2.2-litre diesel engine which churns out a not inconsiderable 156bhp and 285lb-ft of torque. The Peugeot feels meaty and powerful and pulls well low down in the rev range. 0-62mph takes a fairly mediocre 12.5 seconds and you'll be going flat out at 123mph.

The steering is direct and offers good feedback to the driver and there is very little body lean through the bends. However, the ride is very harsh and this makes the car uncomfortable.

Looks & Equipment

The 4007 looks good although it fails to offer the prestige of its rivals such as the Land rover Freelander. The interior feels well screwed together and the plastics are of a decent quality.

You get a decent amount of equipment with alloy wheels, climate control, electric windows and mirrors, cruise control, rear parking sensors, leather seats, CD player and Bluetooth. Sadly, sat-nav is unavailable.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

Peugeot have a poor reputation when it comes to reliability but the 4007 feels well screwed together and comes with a decent 3 year/60,000 mile warranty.

The 4007 should also be safe and comes with six airbags as standard along with electronic brakeforce distribution and stability control.

The 4007 is has seven seats but the back two seats are only suitable for very small children. You get 184-litres of boot space with the rear seats up and 1686-litres with the seats down.

Value for Money

At £29,395, the 4007 GT 2.2 HDi 156 FAP DCS Auto 5dr is very pricey and there are much better cars around for less.

The 4007 doesn't even have the advantage of being cheap to run, managing just 38mpg (combined) and incurring road tax of £245 a year thanks to carbon emissions of 189g/km.

The Peugeot 4007 SE 2.2 HDi FAP isn't a bad car but there is little to recommend it in what is fiercely competitive market sector. There are better cars out there.
