PROS: The Myvi is a perfectly capable little car and doesn't feel outpaced on faster roads. Like every Myvi, this Lux SXi has plenty of kit including air-con, metallic paint and electric windows, making driving comfortable and practical.
CONS: With no side or curtain airbags the Myvi lacks the safety many expect from modern cars. Grip is somewhat loose and stability control is low whilst a tacky exterior has poor style refinement.
The Myvi Lux SXi 5dr offers 86 bhp through a 1.3-litre petrol engine that generates punchy performance around the town whilst enabling the driver to effortlessly keep pace with faster traffic.
The well-laid out and easy to use controls and simple dashboard give first-rate performance levels and the Lux SXi has a comfortable set of seats that allows plenty of movement for passengers. However, the steering wheels do not feature reach adjustment settings to allow the driver to fine-tune their driving position, reducing comfort levels.
The Lux Myvi embraces a long list of on-board features including air-conditioning, front and rear electric windows, remote central locking, a CD player, metallic paint and electric door mirrors as standard.
The Perodua is quite responsive and predictable but steering is a bit too light, hampering the control at times.
Engine and wind noise build up at motorway speeds, potentially causing disruption to drivers. This ultimately makes the Perodua fall short of its rivals which offer a far quieter drive.
Considering the size of the Myvi, there's a lot of room in the cabin of this tall-bodied car - making it great for passengers and drivers alike. With the split/folding rear seats in place, the boot space is small but this is greatly increased when they are folded flat.
Unfortunately, safety is one of the areas where the Myvi really doesn’t match up to its rivals. Although there are standard twin front airbags, there is no side or curtain airbags which when coupled with the absence of stability control makes the cars safety features less than impressive.
The central remote locking is fitted as standard but there is no trace of deadlocks to discourage smash-and-grab criminals.
Priced at just £7,399 there's no doubt that the Myvi is affordable and the level of kit offered for the price is fairly good. Running costs are also affordable making the car cheap to buy and run. Insurance bills are low falling under insurance group 15 and with fuel economy of nearly 50 mpg and road tax falling into band D, buying the Myvi Lux is a wise investment.
That being said, there are plenty of superior car models on the market which offer better features at a similar price. Premium features are not a strong point for the Myvi Lux but those after an entry-level budget car could do a lot worse with their money.
