PROS: Cheap to buy, cheap to run, good looking, practical
CONS: Basic level of standard kit, firm ride
The i20's 1.2-litre petrol engine develops 77bhp and 87lb-ft of torque. This means 0-62mph takes 12.9 seconds and you'll being going flat out at 106mph. This is pretty respectable for a supermini but the engine makes a bit of a meal of it, getting noisy at higher revs.
The ride is jarring but the car handles relatively well with sharp steering and a tight turning circle making city driving a breeze. The i20 is out of its depth on the motorway but if you mainly drive around town, you should have few complaints.
The i20 is a good looking car, if a little anonymous. The interior also feels well made and the plastics are of a decent standard.
This is the base model and, as such, there is very little equipment offered as standard. You do get air-con, electric windows and a CD player with MP3 connectivity but that's about it.
Alloy wheels are unavailable as an option but metallic paint can be specified for £425 to improve the external appearance of the car.
As a small car, this vehicle does not have masses of boot space. When the rear seats are folded the car provides 1060 litres of boot space, and when the seats are upright there is a more limited 295 litres of space.
The i20 should be very safe and scored the full five stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests thanks to its impressive array of airbags with driver, passenger and side airbags all coming as standard.
Reliability should not be an issue either as Hyundai have a very good reputation for building solid cars. You also get a five year unlimited mileage warranty.
At £9,895, the i20 is excellent value for money and is the cheapest model in the range. It doesn't come with a lot of standard kit but you're getting a lot of car for your money.
Running costs should also be low; you'll get 55.4mpg on the combined cycle and CO2 emissions of 119g/km mean that the i20 falls under VED band C which means tax will be cheap. Group 8 insurance also means that finding cover will be both easy and relatively inexpensive.
The Korean revolution continues. The i20 is a great little car and at less than £10k, is good enough to tempt buyers away from Fiestas and Corsas. Not without its faults, but not bad at all.

The Hyundai i20 1.4 Comfort is, like all Hyundais, excellent value for money. On top of this, it feels well put together and is a very comfortable little car to drive. However, it's dull to look at...
The i20 is a great little car but this is the dud of the range. 48.7mpg is just not good enough in a car of this size - buy the 1.2 or the 1.4 diesel instead.
