PROS: The C-MAX Zetec 1.6 (105ps) has plenty of interior space for passengers and luggage. The car has a five star NCAP rating and offers a decent selection of standard features.
CONS: It is not the most economical model in the range and its rivals offer better practicality.
The Ford C-MAX Zetec 1.6 (105ps) 5dr is a little underpowered. The 1.6-litre four-pot petrol engine develops 104bhp and hauls the C-Max to 62mph in 12.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 112mph. This model is the slowest in the range and the diesel engines offer better performance.
The C-Max handles well for such a large car and the ride is superb.
Alloy wheels come as standard with this model but metallic paint will cost you £525.
Leather seats are not an option with this car but the interior is fairly well appointed with Bluetooth and MP3 connectivity offered as standard features alongside a built-in CD player. Satellite navigation can be fitted for an extra £750.
Rear parking sensors can also be purchased for £225, which could be a worthwhile investment with the potential of scratching or bumping the car likely.
The C-Max is a stylish car and proves that you don't have to sacrifice style for practicality.
When the seats are folded there is a generous 1,723 litres of space with 471 litres available when all the seats are in use. As a five door model, practicality is also high when it comes to accessing the vehicle and loading the boot is also easy.
The C-Max should be secure with an alarm and central locking both fitted as standard. Safety is also an area in which this car excels and it achieved the top five star rating in the NCAP crash tests. Driver, passenger and side airbags are all fitted as standard.
The Ford C-MAX Zetec 1.6 (105ps) 5dr is also covered under warranty for three years, or up to 60,000 miles.
This is the cheapest C-Max in the range at £17,445 and despite its fairly basic level of standard equipment it offers decent value for money.
The running costs could be lower as the C-Max only manages to return a combined 42.8mpg. CO2 emissions of 154g/km also put the C-Max in VED band G. The diesel models in the range, while slightly more expensive, offer much better frugality and lower CO2 emissions, and therefore lower running costs.
