For those looking for an executive car which is both stylish and powerful, the Citroen C6 3.0 HDi V6 Exclusive is a great option. The power output of the engine gives the car decent acceleration and the top speed is impressive too. However, all of this comes at a price and the C6 is both expensive to buy and pricey to run.

PROS:  The C6 is a fabulous looking car, offering luxurious comfort, great performance and unrivalled interior comfort.

CONS:  Beneath its attractive appearance, this car hides poor green credentials, poor fuel efficiency and high running costs which could leave buyers severely out of pocket.

Behind the Wheel

With a maximum power output of 240 bhp and 332 lb-ft of torque, the C6 is capable of hitting 149mph. Acceleration is also fairly quick and the car manages 0-62 mph in an impressive 8.9 seconds. The model is well adapted to driving on fast roads but the ultra-light steering can take some adjustment and there is a loss of control in bends. Firm suspension means imperfections in the road are largely cushioned and this ensures that there is plenty of comfort for passengers and drivers.

Noise from the road and wind is a little disruptive which is a shame as the engine itself is relatively quiet once up to speed.

Looks & Equipment

The C6 looks fantastic - it is so much cooler than a BMW 5 Series or an Audi A6. Buy one of these and people will admire your impeccable taste.

The advanced trim level of the Citroen C6 3.0 HDi V6 Exclusive means that there are plenty of features on offer for buyers.

Standard equipment includes: power steering, central locking, stability control, alloy wheels, climate control, electric door mirrors, electric front windows, cruise control, rear parking sensors, leather seats in the interior, an advanced stereo system with CD player and MP3 connectivity, a built-in sat nav system and Bluetooth connectivity.

Upgrading the paintwork to a metallic finish will add £610 to the already steep purchase price.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The interior is well laid out and organised and this means operating controls is easy. The quality of the materials used is fairly high and the interior feels sumptuous. Internal storage is good and there are a few compartments available within the cabin to help large families find a suitable spot to store everything.

In terms of safety, the car received the maximum rating in the NCAP crash tests – achieving five out of five for overall safety. With driver, passenger and front side airbags all fitted as standard this is hardly surprising and it is clear that Citroen have focused on safety and comfort most when it comes to this model.

The car even comes with a lane departure warning programme which helps to ensure drivers stay on track. This is combined with the cruise control and stability control systems which are offered as standard to help ensure owners stay safe behind the wheel at all times.

Catering to the family market, boot capacity is ample and there is 488 litres available even when the seats are up. There is a huge amount of space in the rear seats as well thanks to the C6's 2.9 metre wheelbase. All of the seats are electrically adjustable too which should keep the children quiet.

Value for Money

Priced at £40,160 the Citroen C6 3.0 HDi V6 car is anything but cheap and the running costs will be high.

Road tax will also be expensive under tax band J thanks to carbon emissions of 190 g/km - making the car a menace to the environment and the wallets of owners. Even insurance premiums are likely to be costly with the model falling under insurance bracket 43 – one of the highest in the new 50 group system whilst fuel efficiency totals just 38.7 mpg on the combined cycle. The German opposition can sell you a much more economical car of a similar size.

For families after a high performance vehicle the Citroen C6 3.0 HDi V6 could therefore be tempting but those wanting better value for money will be better off looking elsewhere – especially considering resale values are not good.
