The C3 Picasso 1.6 HDi Exclusive (110hp) is a decent, spacious family car with low running costs and a decent amount of standard equipment. It is a little bit pricey for what it is though and the cheaper diesel models make more financial sense.

PROS:  With better mileage and cheaper road tax than the petrol models, this is a great, economical family car.

CONS:  Quite expensive for a C3 Picasso.

Behind the Wheel

The engine delivers a decent 110 bhp at 3600 rpm with 199 lb-ft of torque. The top speed is 114mph which is more than adequate for a car of this type.

The 1.6 HDi Exclusive (110hp) reaches 62 mph in 11.2 seconds and feels stable and composed on the road. Body-roll is evident through the corners but this is only to be expected in a car of this size.

Noise from the wind and road is audible but not excessive and the engine is fairly quiet too. The diesel engine does a much better job of hauling the car around than the smaller petrol engine does.

Looks & Equipment

This C3 Picasso is full of kit. Standard features include power steering, central locking, electric door mirrors, electric front windows and an advanced stereo system with MP3 connectivity. Stability control, alloy wheels, climate control, cruise control, rear parking sensors and Bluetooth connectivity are also fitted as standard

A built-in sat nav is also available for £750 with a part leather interior costing £380 and a metallic paint finish priced at £450.

The Picasso is a funky looking car and looks quite good despite its tall box-like shape.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The wraparound windscreen ensures good visibility and the driver's seat offers plenty of adjustment, making finding a comfortable driving position easy. The layout of instruments is fairly organised and uncluttered and this means that the car is easy to get to grips with.

The high roofline allows for an impressive amount of interior space. The boot capacity is very large with 385 litres available when the seats are up and 1,506 litres available when they are folded down.

Driver, passenger and side airbags are fitted as standard. An immobiliser is also fitted to protect the vehicle from theft but there is no alarm.

Overall the 1.6 HDi Exclusive scored a four star rating in the NCAP safety tests and also benefits from a three year warranty at 60,000 miles.

Value for Money

The diesel engine is more efficient than its petrol counterpart and achieves 58.8mpg on the combined cycle. This is more than reasonable for a small MPV and offers much better value for money than the petrol models with green credentials also improved with the car emitting 125g/km and incurring relatively low road tax costs under band D.

Priced at £17,295 this is far from the cheapest C3 Picasso model in the range, but the enhanced range of options available on the interior helps to justify this. Insurance premiums will be fairly reasonable under insurance bracket 15 - although the more basic petrol model will be cheaper under bracket 10.

For those eager to get themselves into a Citroen C3 Picasso this a great option which combines good efficiency with a range of internal features.
