Chrysler 300C Car Reviews

The 300C is a large executive car produced by the Fiat-owned American brand Chrysler. It's an absolutely enormous car, it's extremely comfortable and the interior quality is miles ahead of the old 300C. It can't match its German rivals for poise but it makes up for this in charm.

Chrysler 300C Executive 4dr - July 2012
If you're in the market for a big executive car and think that the whole Audi/BMW/Mercedes thing is a bit too obvious, then they 300C could be the car for you. It's a much better car than its prede...

Chrysler 300C Overview

The 300C is fitted with a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine in two states of tune: 188bhp and 236bhp. Both are strong engines -- if not particularly economical -- however, the automatic gearbox is a bit of a let-down and feels sluggish and slow to respond.

The Chrysler clearly sacrifices handling for comfort; it's not particularly bad through the corners, just a little uninspiring. As a cruiser, however, the 300C is superb. It's quiet, comfortable and stable at high speeds, making it a very relaxing drive.

On the inside, the quality is much better than it was in the old 300C. It's not quite as sumptuous as a Beemer or a Merc but everything feels well-made and built to last.

Chrysler makes the bold assertion that the 300C offers Audi A8 space at Audi A6 prices and they're right, up to a point. There's plenty of legroom in both the front and rear although taller rear passengers will find headroom at a premium. The boot is a little on the small side for a car this large too.

Compared to the German opposition, the 300C offers very good value for money; however, it's not the cheapest car to run, failing to top 40mpg and emitting 185g/km of CO2.

Background

The Chrysler 300C was originally unveiled at the 2003 New York Motor Show and went into production the following year. The first generation model was produced until 2010, and the second-gen model was released in 2011.

Summary

Unless you have an irrational hatred of Germans and Germany, there's very little reason to buy the 300C. The new Chrysler is light-years ahead of the old model but it doesn't quite offer the polish or precision of a Merc, an Audi or a Beemer. However, if you're looking for a car which makes you stand out from the crowd, the 300C is a solid all-rounder.
