The most fuel efficient car tested over the last twelve months was the Seat Leon 5DR SE Ecomotive 1.6 TDI.

The ‘True MPG’ figures take account of real world driving conditions and over the last year, 268 cars have been rigorously tested using the most up to date technology available. The Seat Leon 5DR SE Ecomotive 1.6 TDI came in with an impressive 63.2 mpg real world average.

The most efficient cars tested over the last twelve months were as follows.

 

1. SEAT Leon 5DR SE Ecomotive 1.6 TDI - True MPG: 63.2   (Quoted MPG: 85.6)   [ -26.20% difference]

2. Citroen DS3 e-HDi Airdream DSport Plus - True MPG: 63  (Quoted MPG: 74.4)   [ -15.30% difference]

3. Mini Cooper D - True MPG: 62.6   (Quoted MPG: 80.7)   [ -22.40% difference]

4. Skoda Octavia Greenline III - True MPG: 61.9   (Quoted MPG: 88.3)   [ -29.90% difference]

5. Honda Civic i-DTEC EX+ - True MPG: 61.8   (Quoted MPG: 72.4)   [ -14.60% difference]

6. SEAT Leon ST SE Ecomotive 1.6 TDI 110 - True MPG: 61.5   (Quoted MPG: 85.6)   [ -28.20% difference]

The results have highlighted drastic differences between the levels of efficiency claimed by manufacturers and their real life figures; the Ford Fiesta Zetec S was furthest from its official statistic, coming in at 37% below the claimed consumption rate. And as you can see above, every single one of the top ten performers came in with MPG figures notably lower than their official claims, ranging from 14% below to 32% below.
