Swiss manufacturer Rinspeed has released a series of images of its new XchangE, an autonomous driving concept car which will go on show at the Geneva Motor Show next March.
While most major car manufacturers are working towards perfecting the technology used to control autonomous cars, Rinspeed is focussing on improving the autonomous experience for the cabin occupants.
Rinspeed boss Frank M. Rinderknecht said: "So far hardly anyone has taken this to its logical conclusion from the perspective of the driver. After all, traveling in a driverless car will no longer require me to stare at the road, but will let me spend my time in a more meaningful way."
The concept features new seats which are reminiscent of those fitted to business class airline cabins, which can be rotated and moved in a number of ways. Meanwhile, all passengers have the choice of reading, listening to music, surfing the web, playing games or watching films via the car's entertainment systems.
The XchangeE also features steer-by-wire technology which allows the steering wheel to be retracted into the middle of the dashboard when the car is in autonomous mode, giving the occupants more room.
The Geneva Motor Show takes place from 6 to 16 March 2014.
