This is the Toyota GT86 TRD Griffon Project, a pure-bred racing version of Toyota's GT86 coupe, which is due to go on show at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The Griffon is lighter and stiffer than the standard GT86 and comes with a range of race-specification TRD accessories.

On first glance it looks fairly similar to the standard car; however, the bulk of the GT86's bodywork -- including the bumpers, wings, bonnet and roof -- are all made from carbon-fibre in a bid to reduce weight.

Toyota has taken the weight-saving one step further too, by replacing the GT86's glass windows with lighter polycarbonate ones.

Underneath, the GT86's 2.0-litre boxer engine remains unchanged, but Toyota has swapped the standard car's limited-slip diff with a new mechanical diff with a shorter final gear ratio of 4.8:1. A coilover suspension kit has also been added alongside a new oil cooler and a TRD monoblock brake calliper kit.

On the inside, the Griffon gets a TRD driver's bucket seat, gear shift knob, ignition button and oil and water temperature gauges. A Momo steering wheel also comes as standard, as do Takata seatbelts.

Unfortunately, the Griffon is not intended for production and has been developed specifically as a showcase for TRD performance parts.
