The Peugeot 308 has been crowned the 2014 European Car of the Year at the Geneva Motor Show today, beating off competition from the likes of the Tesla Model S and the BMW i3.
A total of 30 cars were eligible for the ECOTY title, with just seven models making it through to the final shortlist. Besides the 308, the BMW i3, Citroen C4 Picasso, Mazda3, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Skoda Octavia and Tesla Model S made it through to the final seven; however, the jury of 58 journalists from 22 European countries decided the Peugeot should take the crown.
The 308 becomes the fourth Peugeot to win the title, following on from the 307 in 2002 the 405 in 1988 and the 504 in 1969.
The 308 was launched in the UK in January and will be joined by the 308 SW estate in the Spring. It also happens to be our current test car, so check back later this week for our full review.
