Mechanic Andrew Mitchinson caused £20,000 worth of damage to a Lamborghini Murcielago after taking it for spin during its MOT.
Mitchinson took the 6.2-litre Lambo out for a spin to test the car's brakes, but clipped a kerb, spun and collided with a parked Ford Focus. He blamed the crash on slippery leaves and a wet road.
Mitchinson, describing the accident, said: "I was in second gear just going up the road to try the brakes. I don't honestly know what happened.
"I wouldn't have been doing more than 25-30mph -- if that."
The 6.2-litre, 630bhp Murcielago belongs to businessman Stephen Leahy, and is estimated to be worth around £95,000.
Mitchinson's father defended his son, adding: "It's the first time he's had an accident in a customer's car and he's been here 20 years. He has driven thousands, from Ferraris to Aston Martins.
"With the Lamborghini being a four-wheel drive, it has to be road tested to test the efficiency of the brakes. You can't put it through the rolling road brake-tester here because it would damage it."
Ironically, the Murcielago's rear headlamp was smashed in the crash, rendering it an MOT failure. We wonder whether Mr Leahy will be entitled to a free partial retest?
