Jaguar has confirmed that it will reveal a new SUV concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week. And in order to give us an idea of what the car will look like, the Coventry company has released a teaser image of the new model.

Although Jaguar is remaining tight-lipped on the exact details of the concept, which is dubbed the C-X17, it has announced that the car is designed to preview "Jaguar’s new, highly-advanced, modular aluminium architecture."

Jaguar also claims that the concept "illustrates the diversity of vehicles that could be produced using this architecture, which underpins the innovative future of the Jaguar brand."

The new platform not only underpins the C-X17, but it will also be used as the basis for Jaguar's new BMW 3 Series-rivalling saloon, which is expected to go on sale in 2015. It also marks the continuation of Jaguar's involvement with aluminium architecture which began with the XJ back in 2003.

Of course, whether or not Jaguar purists will welcome the idea of an SUV wearing the Jaguar badge is a topic for debate -- remember the howls of derision when Jag introduced diesel engines to its model range ten years ago?

So, where do you stand? Is the introduction of an SUV to the Jag range a blot on one of Britain's most luxurious badges, or a logical step for a premium car manufacturer wanting to remain at the top of its game?
