This is the BMW Gran Lusso Coupe, a new concept car which could preview the next-generation 8-Series coupe.

The concept, which was unveiled by BMW at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este last weekend, is a design collaboration between BMW and Italian styling house Pininfarina.

Underneath, the Gran Lusso Coupe is based upon a modified version of the platform that currently underpins the BMW 7-Series. The concept also shares its engine -- a 537bhp 6.0-litre V12 -- with the existing 760i.

As you can see, the Gran Lusso Coupe reveals a bold new look for the German manufacturer, and is claimed to hint at the styling direction Beemer will take with future models. However, a number of BMW's trademark design elements remain, including the kidney grille, the long bonnet, the shallow glasshouse and, of course, the firm's trademark 'Hoffmeister Kink.'

On the inside, the Gran Lusso Coupe's cabin is fashioned from a range of high-quality and exotic materials, including black and tobacco brown leather from Italian company Foglizzo, rooflining finished in Italian virgin wool, and trim made of rare kauri wood sourced from New Zealand.

BMW claims that there is enough space inside the Gran Lusso Coupe for four adults, with legroom in the back seats "almost on a par with that of a large luxury sedan."

At the moment, the Gran Lusso Coupe is just a concept; however, BMW claims that it could make it to production relatively unchanged.
