The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been around since 2005; however, eight years later and with a replacement just around the corner, Merc's flagship is still the car to beat in the luxury stakes.
The focus of the S-Class is on its rear seat passengers -- after all, if you buy an S-Class the chances are you'll also pay someone to drive it -- and in this respect it is almost peerless. The interior is sumptuously appointed in wood and leather, and rear head- and leg-room are ample.
An all-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class is due out later this year
But don't think that it's just the rear seat passengers who will have all the fun -- the S-Class is brilliant to drive too, especially for such a large car. It feels agile and body control is kept to a minimum thanks to its adaptive air suspension.
The S-Class's engine range offers something for everyone, from the 350 CDI diesel, which returns 37mpg, to the 621bhp S65 AMG, a car which you certainly won't want your chauffeur to drive.
Mercedes-Benz PR Manager Angus Fitton accepts the award on behalf of the S-Class from CarSite Head of Online Advertising Christian Long
On top of all this, the S-Class is built with Mercedes' legendary fastidious attention to detail and genuinely feels like it could clock up more than a million miles without any trouble.
