When it came to choosing our favourite city car of 2013, it was both an easy and a difficult task. The easy part was deciding that the accolade would have to go to one of the superb VW up!/Skoda Citigo/SEAT Mii triumvirate; however, the tricky part was deciding which one.

Truth be told, they're all excellent. But we decided that the CarSite City Car of the Year 2013 had to be the Volkswagen up!.

The up! is quite simply an excellent little city car. It's good looking, well-made and blessed with arguably the classiest interior in this market segment.

On top of this, it is offered with a choice of two excellent engines which not only make the up! a nimble and responsive performer around town, but a surprisingly competent cruiser on the open road -- it really does feel like a much larger car than it actually is.

CarSite Head of Online Advertising Christian Long presents Volkswagen PR Manager Rory Lumsdon with the award.

Crucially, the up! is cheap to run too. The most frugal models in the range are road tax-free thanks to their sub-100g/km CO2 emissions, and the BlueMotion models in the range nudge 70mpg on the combined cycle.

True, the Mii and the Citigo are cheaper to buy; however, we think that the up!'s upmarket feel, combined with its predicted strong residuals, makes it the car to beat.
