Audi has released the first images of its latest Quattro concept car, which will make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.
The new concept is designed to revive the iconic Quattro nameplate, which was last seen on the legendary all-wheel drive rally car of the 1980s, and will go into production in limited numbers at the firm's Neckarsulm plant in Germany next year.
With a price tag upwards of £125,000, the Quattro will become the flagship of the Audi range and the most expensive model the company makes.
This isn't the first time Audi has revealed a concept designed to resurrect the Quattro name; the 2010 Paris Motor Show saw Audi debut another Quattro concept which was built on a shortened version of the RS5 platform. The 2010 concept featured an aluminium and carbon-fibre body and a 402bhp version of the company's five-cylinder turbocharged engine.
The new car will mark the return of the Quattro namplate, which was last used in 1991.
Unfortunately, Audi has not revealed any details on the new Quattro; however, we do know that the new concept will be longer than the previous one, and will probably share its dimensions with the current A5.
There's no news on what engine will power the new Quattro but it seems likely that the car will come with Audi's new turbocharged 4.0-litre V8, tweaked to produce in excess of 600bhp.
The Frankfurt Motor Show begins on 10 September.
