Audi hope to wow the crowds at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month with a new all-electric SUV concept which the manufacturer claims has a potential range of over 310 miles.
Using expertise gained from the development of the forthcoming Audi R8 e-tron, the Audi e-tron concept has been designed from the ground up as an electric car using movable aerodynamic devices to optimise airflow.
A sleek, coupe-like cabin atop the SUV body also helps in this area, and the result drag coefficient value of 0.25 is a record for the SUV segment, contributing significantly to the projected range of over 310 miles.
A low slung lithium-ion battery situated between the axles and beneath the cabin floor provides a low centre of gravity, boosting handling.
Going back to the experience gained with the Audi R8 e-tron sports car, the three electric motors – one on the front axle and two on the rear – create what the car maker refers to as an ‘electrified quattro’.
The Frankfurt Motor Show starts on 15 September.
