CarSite Verdict:  2.5/5
The amount of kit that the Beetle comes with is pretty limited and the buyer will be paying for the distinctive shell of the Beetle and the great power hood that this cabriolet boasts. The performance is not particularly good, nor is the car very practical.

PROS:  This Beetle is distinctive and iconic, has a solid build, and a power hood that is definitely a selling point.

CONS:  The amount of kit is very basic and the performance is uninspiring. Also, space is lacking and rear visiblity is poor.

Behind the Wheel

This car has a top speed of 110 mph and is quite slow off the mark taking a sluggish 12.3 seconds for this car to travel from 0-62 mph. Its power output is 101 bhp and it has torque figures of 109 lb-ft at 3800 rpm.

The Beetle is relatively slow and doesn't have the best performance credientials. Also, over-the-shoulder visibility with the hood up is really quite bad.

Looks & Equipment

Alloy wheels are standard, but metallic paint is extra at £465. Air conditioning is not fitted as standard, but it can be added for £975. Climate control is not available at all.

Electric door mirrors and electric front windows are standard, but leather seats have to be added for £1,615. Cruise control is available for £235.

Rear parking sensors can be bought on top of the purchase price of the vehicle for £330.

The in-car entertainment is limited to a CD player and MP3 connectivity. Bluetooth and satallite navigation are not available in the Beetle.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

An alarm and central locking are fitted as standard with this model. It also comes with driver, passenger and front side airbags as standard.

The Beetle seats five occupants but only has three-door access and is very cramped. The boot space is not particularly generous as when the rear seats are upright there is just 201 litres available.

This car has a solid build though, and in terms of reliability this car is covered under warranty for three years and up to 60,000 miles.

Value for Money

The Beetle cabriolet is available for £18,230. However, the main attraction here is the iconic shell and the power hood of the cabriolet.

This car has CO2 emissions of 185 g/km and has fuel efficiency of 36.7 mpg, so it is far from an efficient car to run and emissions are particularly high for such a slow engine.

The features do not add up to much either and although the Beetle is a well-made, quality machine, you will be paying for the image of the Beetle more than anything else.
