The Zafira Tourer is a practical MPV that does have plenty of space, with seats that can be adjusted to balance load space and passenger capacity, and the driving experience isn't too bad either. The main issue with this car is that the technology that is included in the engine to make it so efficient does come at a hefty premium, and many people will want a much quieter car for this price.

PROS:  The cabin is comfortable and well designed with an engine that balances performance and efficiency, while the seats are quite flexible and the seven seats does improve the practicality of the car.

CONS:  The third row of seats are quite small and will really only suit children, while the price of this additional fuel efficiency is seen in the price tag, which still doesn't have a luxurious level of trim.

Behind the Wheel

The Zafira Tourer can boast a very good stability on the road for such a big car, with very little body roll in the corners, while the car also deals with the majority of larger bumps quite comfortably too. The trade off for such a stable car is that the ride is quite firm, and especially at slow speeds the ride is unsettled. The light steering of the car means it is easy to park and does well around town, but it is a little twitchy when driving at speed. Visibility is very good with narrow windscreen pillars, and the driving seat and steering wheel can be adjusted to suit the individual driver.

The engine performance is very good, with the 2.0 litre diesel engine able to achieve acceleration from 0-62mph in only 9.1 seconds. The top speed of 129mph is also very good for a car of this size, especially when you consider how efficient the engine is, but one disappointing aspect about the Zafira Tourer is that the cabin isn't particularly refined with engine noise being a particular problem.

Looks & Equipment

The Zafira Tourer has a more modern look than the regular Zafira, and the lines have been softened, with air vents on the front bumper designed to reflect the shape of the headlight cluster. The Zafira Tourer has a fairly square shape which is inevitable in a car like this that has been designed for practicality, but the large rear window does give the back end a distinctive look, with the tail light clusters good looking too. Inside the car the trim is quite nice, with a decent level of equipment, but there are a lot of buttons that can be a little awkward to use.

The level of equipment with this model of the Zafira Tourer is quite good, with alloy wheels and seats that split to fold improving the practicality of the car. Cruise control makes the car a little easier to drive on motorway journeys, and the climate control means the cabin should be comfortable too.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

There is no doubt that the Zafira Tourer is a car designed for practicality, and the flexibility of the cabin and the seats mean that it does work well even for a larger family. When the rear seats are removed the boot space is also very good. One concern for those considering a Vauxhall Zafira Tourer is that the reliability record isn't particularly impressive, but it does have a great warranty.

The safety of the Zafira Tourer is also quite good, with plenty of airbags to protect occupants in the front and middle seats in an accident, and there is also stability control which is very important for a car of this size.

Value for Money

One of the biggest obstacles for many people who are considering buying this version of the Zafira Tourer is that the list price is £25,915.

The running costs for this version of the Tourer are very competitive, with the engine able to deliver an average 54.3mpg, which is part of the reason for the high purchase price. The insurance costs benefit from having quite a low insurance group, while the depreciation costs are better than for many other Vauxhall models. The car is supplied with a superb warranty that could last a lifetime for up to 100,000 miles, and also has a one year roadside breakdown assistance policy.
