CarSite Verdict:  4/5
Being a sports car, this one is quite affordable with all the style and essence of a Megane Coupe. It comes with highly responsive steering and handles twisty roads and crispy turns well. It also comes with a quiet and smooth engine which is highly impressive but this model has stiffer and lower suspension in comparison to all three door versions.

PROS:  This is the cheapest version of Megane Coupe band and still comes with good looks and great performance. Unlike other versions, this one also includes air conditioning in the kit.

CONS:  It comes with a small engine, which is not up to the mark and some rival cars are providing punchier power and smoothness along with better economy.

Behind the Wheel

A top speed of 118 mph and acceleration which can reach 0-62 mph in just 10.5 seconds give this car decent performance credentials thanks to a power ouput of 110 bhp and torque values of 112 lb-ft at 4250rmp. Unfortunately efficiency is not as impressive and the car does not perform well when it comes to fuel consumption.

The Megane Coupe might look like it belongs on a racetrack but it's refined enough to make a civilised everyday car. The refinement levels are high and the noise of the engine settles into a low hum at motorway speeds - although road and wind noise will become present at this time. The car drives well and gear changes are smooth and easy.

Looks & Equipment

High quality sports seats, leather bound steering wheel, cruise control, MP3 connectivity, CD player, Bluetooth connectivity, satellite navigation system, air conditioner, electric door mirrors, electric front windows, metallic paint finish, and stability control are all standard features of this model, offering an excellent range of kit for the money.

The car's appearance is stylish and attractive, embodying a sporty look. Additions such as chrome pedals and a stylish dashboard help to enhance the overall look of the car and even the external appearance is attractive thanks to the car's distinctive shape and good dimensions.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The Megane comes with plenty of space in the front for those with long legs but there is not much headroom available as compared to some rivals and the rear seats are cramped. The boot capacity ranges from 344 litres to 911 litres depending on whether the rear seats are in position and offering a range of loading possibilities to owners.

All the models provide utmost safety and there are plenty of safety measures fitted as standard including driver, passenger and front side airbags, central locking, stability control, rear parking sensors and an alarm to safeguard the vehicle from any danger of accident or theft.

The reliability of Renault's often comes into question and although this model comes with a 100,000 mile, three year warranty this is still likely to be a concern. That being said, the quality of materials used in the construction and the fit and finish of the build are high and the car feels resilient.

Value for Money

With a price of £16,495 this is the cheapest model of the range and there is still a good selection of kit on offer which makes it a decent option. Carbon emissions of 163 g/km are a problem however as the car falls into a mid-range road tax band (G). Fuel economy is also poor, even failing to achieve 40.0 mpg on a combined cycle, and this means running costs could be a little high.

That being said, insurance premiums will be manageable under insurance group 15 and resale values are strong so owners may still be able to benefit from this car. Taking into account the excellent range of equipment on offer, the model represents decent value for money.
