Peugeot's 5008 is an excellent all-rounder. It does everything that you could realistically expect from an MPV, is cheap to buy and run and comes with a decent amount of standard equipment. Very impressive.

PROS:  Affordable, comfortable, well equipped, practical

CONS:  The rearmost seats are only really suitable for kids

Behind the Wheel

Thanks to its excellent 2.0-litre diesel engine, the 5008 can get from 0-62mph in 10 seconds and on to a top speed of 118mph. It produces 150bhp and 250lb-ft of torque which makes it feel very powerful low down in the rev range.

The ride is very composed and the steering is well-weighted and precise, making it surprisingly fun to drive. Refinement is also excellent and there is very little noise from the engine, wind or road, even at speed.

Looks & Equipment

The 5008 is very stylish and the cabin is also very good looking and feels well made thanks to an abundance of soft-touch plastics.

Standard kit includes alloy wheels, climate control, electric windows and mirrors, cruise control, rear parking sensors, Bluetooth and a CD player with MP3 connectivity. You can add sat-nav for £735 and leather seats will set you back £1260.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

There is a colossal amount of interior space in the 5008 with seating for seven people and an impressive boot, however, the rearmost seats are suitable only for kids. With the rear seats down you get 2506-litres of luggage space and even with the rear seats up you get 679-litres.

The 5008's safety credentials are also impressive and the Pug scored five stars in the Euro NCAP safety tests.

Reliability is a bit of a grey area for the 5008. It is based on the very reliable Citroen C4 Grand Picasso however, Peugeot have a very dodgy reputation when it comes to reliability.

Value for Money

The 5008 Allure HDi 150 FAP starts from £24,095, making it one of the msot expensive 5008s in the range. However, it does still offer superb value for money when you consider the impressive level of standard kit on offer and the sheer amount of car you're getting for your bunce.

It should also be relatively inexpensive to own, returning 47.9mpg combined and CO2 emissions of 154g/km which mean it falls under VED band G.
